writeup

Hi.

This is about my ThinkPad X1 Extreme 3rd edition, serial R90ZJSJ9.

For at least half a year I've had issues with the battery. It seems to have issues communicating with the operating system, not just issues which look like normal wear. For example: sometimes the BIOS will show me a screen claiming my battery isn't genuine, when I'm booting up. Often the does not correctly report the charge level to the operating system, so I'll often see the OS claiming it's at 0% charge for half an hour, until it actually runs out.

I've previously submitted a ticket for this several months back (2005655242), via the Swiss Lenovo support site. Very frustratingly, Swiss Lenovo support have just cancelled my ticket without any explanation, and I have not managed to get through to any sort of human via Swiss support channels (either via online chat, or via phone). The support website claims the ticket is cancelled, but the "datetime it was cancelled" keeps changing, and I never got any human response of any form, so I suspect the ticket is just stuck in some weird state.
I am moving to USA so I want to try the USA support channels.

My warranty covers one free battery replacement.

However, I'm not 100% sure it's the battery that's broken, and the symptoms I'm experiencing are *not* just normal battery life degradation.
So - if there's any chance my 5-year warranty would cover this, I'd like to have a technician take a look at the laptop.

Issue description:

Battery issues for >6 months. Seems to have issues communicating with OS, not just degraded capacity. BIOS warns battery isn't genuine (it is). OS often gets errors reading charge & reports 0%.

Detailed steps to reproduce the issues:

I've previously submitted ticket 2005655242 to get this resolved but never got follow-up and ticket just got cancelled.

Battery reporting 0% is sporadic; sometimes OS reports charge correctly, sometimes OS reports errors trying to read charge from battery (and displays it as 0%).
